high bun art

When I saw these pieces of art by Elizabeth Mayville, I loved them immediately. The high bun is a recurring theme in my style. While I love the easy look, my boyfriend and mom hate it, and that makes these paintings even more perfect. They are such cute, charming, and silly pieces of art. The redhaired one speaks to me because -- duh -- I'm a redhead! I love the Breton stripe shirt, as well. This would look amazing by a vanity, coupled with my White Girl Problems print.

paule marrot

A few months ago I inquired about the amazing art in this picture featured on I Suwannee. Well I was browsing Dwell Studio and stumbled across the same beautiful piece.

The "painting" is actually a textile from French artist Paule Marrot's archives. Marrot was an artist and textile designer in the twentieth century. Her bold colors and modern patterns are associated with the Art Deco movement. She hobnobbed with royalty and Jacqueline Kennedy actually based the decor of a White House room on one of her pieces.

I adore the bright colors and whimsical prints in Marrot's work. "Feathers" is still my favorite, but I can't stop looking at "Clouds." A couple of pieces are being sold at Dwell Studio, but you can check out her whole collection at her website. You can even buy rugs and furniture. I would love to get my hands on this carpet. They're out of my price range, but I'm daydreaming about filling a future home with this beautiful art.

pretty pretty princess

I'm obsessed with Tres Sugar's feature on Disney Princess Art. My favorite Disney princess has always been Ariel, obviously (redheads stick together), so I like seeing all the different artistic interpretations of her. I had to include some great images of other princesses, too. The hipster depictions are genius, I mean, Ariel as a redhaired Amy Winehouse?! I love the real-life portrayals and how funny/disturbing is the obese Cinderella? I'd love to have the whole collection of the "7 Deadly Sins." In fact, if I had a daughter, I'd definitely try to get at least one of these collections to decorate a wall (maybe not "7 Deadly Sins," that would be a little dark).

christmas countdown

I went to Catholic school for 14 years, so I'm a firm supporter of an Advent calender that doesn't involve cardboard and old chocolate. Etsy store EcoMonster's DIY Advent calender kits are the perfect, modern alternative.

Every day leading up to Christmas, open an envelope filled with little craft supplies, like beads, glitter, stickers and stamps. The insides aren't the only treats, as the clothespins and envelopes give Christmas decor a nostalgic twist.

For those that aren't as religious (or are just behind the ball!) there's even a "12 Days Till Christmas" version.

birds of a feather

I Suwannee always makes me want to move into her studio, Furbish. Today, I was completely taken with the pink bird painting in this picture. I have to get my hands on it and hang it up immediately. I normally have a weird thing about birds (like a weird, hate thing) but this piece of art is so charming and whimsical. It gives off the exact vibe I want my home to have. Anyone know any information on it? I seriously must own this.

good tidings

How fun are these holiday cards? They're from Creativity Cards' Etsy shop.

I am a proponent of handwritten notes and have always loved Christmas cards. I don't have a family yet, so I can't send a picture, and I think typical holiday cards can be so boring or tacky. These letterpress cards are cute and modern.

I think my family and friends would love to receive one of these sweet cards in the mail. The best part is, they double as coasters. Just perfect for resting a hot coffee with Bailey's on. I may even buy an extra pack to keep some around my apartment to use during parties over the winter

girl problems

My aesthetic is definitely girly. When it comes to fashion, I consider myself fairly skilled at juxtaposing very feminine elements with more casual or edgy pieces. I'm still figuring out how to translate that skill to decor.

I mean, the first pieces of art I bought for my apartment were pink and said "Love" and "Life is Beautiful." There is literally a glass bowl of pink and white lollipops in the living room. A few weeks ago I was looking to balance the girliness out without seeming ironic or obvious.

I found my answer in JustinMages' online store. I love silkscreen prints, so his Etsy shop was perfect for me. His tongue-in-cheek pieces are sort of whimsical with a pop-art twist.

The White Girl Problems 11x17 print is perfect for my bedroom. It fits the pink, white and gold color scheme but the funky design and slightly irreverent message keeps it from being too saccharine. Because the imagery is of a pin-up girl getting ready, I'm putting it between my dresser and my vanity. It's such a fun piece of art to inspire me while getting myself ready.
