from the mountains, to the prairies

Happy Fourth of July! I know it's not until tomorrow, but I've been without power all week, and don't know when it will return (grrrr), so I wanted to wish you all a happy holiday while I had the chance. Please forgive the lack of posts. I've been traveling and am in the midst of some big changes! I can't wait to update you all.

white on white

It's pretty clear by now that the "no white after Labor Day" rule is outdated, but Memorial Day is still the official start of Summer dressing. As much as I love an all-white look, I find myself surprisingly intimidated when it comes to layering on stark white pieces. This Summer, I'm going to make it a point to rock this style more often.

On another note, happy Memorial Day! I hope you're all enjoying your long weekends! I wish I could enjoy some fun in the sun, but it's business as usual for us in the news!

april rules

With April's arrival and Easter coming up, I can't get enough of ladylike dresses. Light, fun colors are one of the best parts of Spring dressing. I love the feminine details that are everywhere this season, like midi hemlines, lace, collars, a-line silhouettes and floral prints. To change up the look, I love adding a tailored white blazer, or even a black leather jacket to add some edge.

erin go bragh

Happy St. Patrick's Day my little lassies! As a redhead, it's mandatory that I love this holiday. Not to mention, I'm like 150% Irish (okay, not quite), and my siblings and I sound like we're saints or leprechauns with our ultra-Irish names. We're members of an O-apostrophe clan!

Needless to say, I love having my soda bread, Guiness and potatoes on Saint Patrick's Day (super low-carb). My family is abandoning me for Boston (the ultra-Irish home of the Celtics of all places!) to celebrate our homeland's famous holiday. I'm still conjuring up what my signature cocktail of the day will be and brainstorming Irish recipes. The one thing I don't need to worry about is an outfit. Being as Irish as I look, I abstain from wearing green. My hair is my Irish flair!

So as you celebrate, remember that on St. Patrick's Day, everyone's Irish! I hope you drink, laugh, pray, curse and get red in the face like the Irish. I leave you with one of my favorite Irish blessings:

Wishing you always...
Walls for the wind,
A roof for the rain
And tea beside the fire.
Laughter to cheer you,
Those you love near you,
And all that your heart may desire.

Cheers!

be mine

Happy birthday my sweet Valentines! I hope you have a love-filled day with your significant other, friends and family. I'm on a major sugar high already and it's not even noon! Not to mention I'm about to down a cherry Fun Dip from my lovely coworker, Katie! I know there are lots of Valentine's Day haters out there but you cannot argue with the obscene amount of baked goods and treats! (Although maybe if they weren't all red and pink my mouth wouldn't look so ridiculous)

valentine's date

Did you ever see that episode of Friends where Rachel accidentally wears a silk chemise out to dinner with Ross' parents? Ever since then I've had this weird obsession with wearing slips out and about. Don't ask me why, but I can't stop thinking about fulfilling my fashion fantasy by wearing a lingerie-inspired dress as a Valentine's Day outfit.

Most people are probably thinking about pink and reds for the holiday of love, but I love the idea of mixing super-sexy and edgy. I mean, that's probably more appealing to a date than candy and hearts, right? Don't get me wrong, I'm probably the girliest dresser you'll meet, but I think there's something cool about looking just plain hot on a day where the rest of the world celebrates mushy romance. The slip can be toughened-up by throwing on a leather jacket, tons of funky accessories and studs. Include some more "typical" Valentine's Day pieces with bow detailing on shoes and heart shaped jewelry. Even better, use it as a chance to swap out your standard gold pieces for rose gold jewelry.

a valentine's vow

I never thought I would be a fan of this couple. I mean, unlike my roommate and her sister, I'm not a die hard fan of Step Up. But recently I've been loving Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum! She's been rocking the red carpet, I loved her Golden Globes gown, and he seems so nice and charming. She looked absolutely ready for a Valentine's Day date at the premiere of The Vow. How perfectly appropriate considering her husband's movie looks like the most weepy, romantic, cheesy, wonderful Valentine's Day movie!

The Tadashi Shoji Spring 2012 dress is overtly girly with its pinkish red lace, layers of tulle and a ribbon bow. I probably would have opted for neutral shoes and clutch, but it kind of works that she went over the top with the Valentine's Day theme, considering the event she was attending.

days of our lives

Something about a new year makes me want to reorganize, prioritize and make new strategies for success and happiness. There's no better literal representation of that than throwing away an old calendar and picking a new one that will set the tone for the next 365 days.

In that spirit, I'm going to feature a few calendars that I hope will inspire in the days leading up to 2012. This is one of my favorites by Inslee.

I first discovered Inslee's  delightful designs when I stumbled across some illustrations she made of some of my favorite bloggers. It would be a treat to see her inspirational, fashionable images every day.
