While it's starting to feel like Spring here in D.C., other areas aren't so lucky. My sister goes to school up north and, as college students do, is starting to feel sick of her wardrobe. Unfortunately for her, though, the seasons haven't really changed, so she's pretty much stuck with the same outfits for a few more weeks. When she asked me how she could remix her closet, I thought of something she could buy that would work with her cold-weather clothes, but carry over into the Spring and even Summer.

I love the hippie-chic look of suede ankle booties. They're diverse enough to work in any weather. While it's still cold, a perfect look is skinny jeans, a silk cami and an oversized fatigue jacket. To keep the look from being too military, add a polished bag and a floral scarf. When it warms up, these boots just scream to be worn with a festival-inspired look. I can't wait to pair some with jean shorts, a boxy tank and silk kimono jacket. The look is completed with a fringe bag and friendship bracelets.

Could these be the perfect pair of printed pants I've been searching for? 7 For All Mankind has the cutest selection of printed skinny jeans. The Toffee and Laser Ikat are so fun and can be dressed up or down. The Garden Party print is the prettiest floral. It's dark enough to be worn now, and bright enough to last through the warmer seasons. I think the pair in Kauai Floral are absolutely perfect. I love the large floral pattern and the colors are spot-on for what I want to pair them with. A chambray shirt would go just as well as a racerback tank, fitted black blazer or flowy peasant top.

a new point of view

Often what the audience is wearing at fashion shows can be as influential as what's shown on the runway. While looking through pictures from Paris Fashion Week, I noticed that most of the celebrities were eschewing the platform, sky-high heels that have been so popular in the past few years in favor of pointed pumps. Louis Vuitton's metallic cap-toe pumps were the most popular option.

As I talked about a few months ago, I totally prefer this ladylike look. As a short girl, I was a big fan of the chunkier style because of the added height of the platform. However, I think it's time for a new footwear trend, and I love this return to a prettier, dainty shoe.

I love the new printed pants trend that has been everywhere lately. Unfortunately, I haven't found a pair that fits me just right. The jeans seem like they should be looser and the trousers seem matronly. I'm still on the hunt for the perfect pair, though! I'm also crazy about mixing floral with animal prints. It seems outrageous, but when done right, it looks so fun and glamorous. This J. Crew bag is perfect for the seasonal transition.

I'm also happy to announce that I am officially retiring my down puffer jacket! Despite the fact that it's still pretty chilly at 4 a.m. when I get to work, I think I can swap out my winter coat for a lighter jacket. March is awesome but tricky at the same time because it's definitely not the dead of Winter anymore, but it's not full-fledged Spring. I like to ease into my warm weather wardrobe by replacing Winter staples, like gloves, boots and tights with lighter layers, such as blazers, cropped pants and bare legs, but sticking with some sweaters, tweeds and light scarves. I also mix some lighter colors, like mint (and maybe yellow!) in with the Winter standards like gray, forest green and black. In a few weeks, my closet will be fully transformed into its Spring glory.

Charlotte Casiraghi has been on my list of girl crushes I need to write about for a while now. 25-year-old Charlotte is Princess Grace's granddaughter and a Monaco royal. She's insanely beautiful and her fashion icon status is solidified now that she is the new face of Gucci.

This shoot wasn't Gucci's first collaboration with the royal. They also made a customized riding uniform for her. The gorgeous ads pay homage to Charlotte's background as an equestrian. The brand's classic red and green stripe is seamlessly incorporated into the images, from the polished blazer to the painfully cool, but effortlessly chic headscarf, even the horse's blanket. Of course, Charlotte's striking beauty doesn't hurt either. She somehow looks exotic but very classic at the same time. Though her dark, glamorous features are more European than her grandmother's blonde, preppy look, she exudes the same old-Hollywood, American elegance as Princess Grace.

Madewell released their first ever Spring lookbook and I am so taken with the beautiful images and styles. The Parisian setting has a seventies, laid-back vibe. Doesn't it make you want to go backpacking through Europe? The clothes are feminine but not too girly. The pieces are soft and loose and hit on trends, such as neutrals and brights as well as mixing prints, but stay natural and easy. My favorites are the white dress with blue detailing and the loose cardigans and button ups.
